v2.0 Architecture

We are fixing the
broken image web.

OpenHEIC is not just a converter. It is a privacy-first utility designed to bridge the gap between Apple's ecosystem and the rest of the digital world.

The Problem

Why we exist.

In 2017, the digital photography landscape fractured. Apple introduced the High Efficiency Image Container (HEIC). While technically superior for compression, it created a "walled garden" that locked millions of users out of their own photos on Windows, Android, and the Web.

The market responded with predatory tools: websites filled with ads that required you to upload your personal memories to opaque cloud servers in unknown jurisdictions.

We built OpenHEIC to offer a third option: Compatibility without compromise.

Client-Side Architecture

We moved the conversion engine from the server to your browser. Your photos never leave your device.

Metadata Preservation

Unlike cheap converters, we preserve your EXIF data (Date taken, GPS, Camera settings) during conversion.

Bulk Processing Core

Built for heavy workflows. Convert 100+ images in seconds using multi-threaded WASM processing.

How It Works

We utilize advanced browser technologies to deliver native-app performance on the web.

01

Input

You drop a HEIC file. The browser creates a secure 'Blob' URL locally in memory.

02

Processing

Our compiled WebAssembly module decodes the HEVC bitstream directly on your CPU.

03

Output

The image is re-encoded to JPG/PNG/WEBP and saved to your disk instantly.

Free. Forever.
For Everyone.

We don't sell data. We don't have paywalls. OpenHEIC is supported by non-intrusive ads and community donations to keep the web open.
